- IMSA The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy® is an internationally-recognized pioneering educational institution created by the State of Illinois to develop talent and leadership in mathematics, science and technology.
That is the Official description, the Non Official one is that IMSA is an amazing school for motivated and bright students, it is a place where High School kids that are different or "geeks" or "nerds" can be cool, because they are all brught. Its a place where the Dance Team captain can also be on the Math team.
IMSA is not for every kid, it takes something extra in a kid, and in the parents, to move away from home, live at school and do the level and quantitiy of work required, but for the kids that do decide to go there, for most of them it is an experience that will shape them and be a part of them for the rest of ththeir lives.
IMSA is not perfect, it is a Lab school, they are continuing to try and find the best ways to teach and to encourage kids to excel. At IMSA excellence is not just an acheivment test, nor is it class rank or gpa, Imsa does not compute students GPA's or Ranks, its not about competition. Imsa is a place where kids can explore classes like Astonomy, Bio-Technology, Ceramics, Music, Shakespear. Poetry or Multi Variable Calculus.
The IMSA Alumni Community is strong, The bonds foprmed by living together and "surviving" together last a lifetime. They have created a network of IMSA students to help each other with career, College Choices and many other things.IMSA Alumni Association
